2011 Annual Report
"I am pleased to report continued progress in 2011 that was highlighted by our return to
profitability. This year's improved results reflect revenue growth and better margins
that were positively impacted by ABF tonnage increases in the early part of the year and
improved account pricing throughout the remainder of the year. Our efforts increased the
incremental profitability of our account base. The economy is gradually recovering. That
fact, coupled with the tightening of industry capacity, provided a better marketplace
in which to do business in 2011. In addition to the improved profitability of ABF, last year's
performance was enhanced by the revenue and profit contributions from our emerging, non-asset-based
businesses. These businesses complement and enhance our core, asset-based LTL services."
